Holistic Cooking + Holistic Coaching
My first memory of baking was when I used to make Anzac cookies for my dad when I was a little girl. I remember the amount of times I would make them too hard, or too sweet, or just plain out burnt.. hehe- oh the fun of baking. I find there is no ceiling for the amount of times you can make something to get it just RIGHT.
No matter how many time’s you get it wrong or right- there’s no limit to how much you can talk about, do and re-do a recipe just for the sake of perfection, as though the world depends on how it will turn out the next time.
“Cooking is a process of self-discovery, learning how to forgive yourself when it doesn’t turn out right, or how to feel proud of yourself when it’s perfect. I find it a delight in wonder, bringing forth my inner child and inner scientist all in the same moment.”-Nadine Loraine
I feel like a wild Witch when adding a little bit of this-and a little bit of that..
And to see the faces of those I love enjoying the first bites of the fresh outa the oven master-piece, that moment of relaxation in their being, or the moment of bliss of being fully present with the moment of pure joy.
Living in my Nannas house for apart of my childhood introduced me to the spirit of cooking.
I still have Nanna’s nagging wise words around food circling, in my mind and heart-
In a good way.
She taught me the importance of home cooked food. She wasn’t one to measure or follow recipes, so- that is where I witnessed what it was like to FEEL into the creation of cooking. She taught me the importance of avoiding anything in a packet. To make from ‘scratch’, and to enjoy desert.
She also taught me the importance of cleaning my system out a couple of times a year, and I will never forget the horrible herbs she would make me drink every time I need to spring cleaning on the insides.
Thats were my love’s for herbs, I was ‘made’ to drink them at a young age.
Most of the time cooking requires deep intuitive listening, presence, a willingness to not get it right, letting your inner child play and explore and be inspired.
So why do I daringly combine my love for cooking and food, with coaching?
Before you gush and tell me that I must choose ONE thing to do in this lifetime-especially when it comes to business.
I was inspired from a recent cookbook I was blessed to read, which quickly became my favorite so far.. ‘SWEET’ by Yotam Ottolenghi and Helen Goh.
Helen is a pastry chef and a successful psychotherapist.
Why choose one, when you can do both..or more?!
I am a multipotentialite and to choose just one, would be doing a disservice to you and myself..
Most of the time we believe that we must focus on one so that we can ‘have’ the time for the others, or the ‘money’ for the things we really want to do in life..
I always used to look at women who’ve had highly successful careers and THEN they’ve done what they love..
I say, heck, why not now? why not all at once? I have the time, I have the inspiration..
So why the hell not?!
You’d be surprised at how much food plays an important part on our mental health, where its grown, what has or hasn’t been sprayed on it, why gut health is important for our mental health. Not only that-but the support we give to our local community growers supports a system of honest farming and the energy of good food is really good for our spirit.
I believe cooking to be a reflection on personal growth, learning to let go of perfection and a willingness to be daringly different and explore the edges. My inner child is happy when I’m creating in the kitchen. I bounce around from one area doing 3 different things at once.. A sauce for dinner, chopping veggies for a dish and blending a smoothie for my hubbies lunch the next day…
I feel like I’m free to play, free to be in one direction or 5 at once. I’m not restricted to doing just one thing.. My creative energy is high and I have 100 ideas each moment. I find cooking to be a place we I can sort all of them AND do something productive at the same time.
The holistic life means you look at all areas of your life and try and find the whole part of it, holistic spirituality, holistic cooking, holistic medicine..
We need to look at our inner world with a wider scope, rather than just criticizing our mental state..
Do we have fresh air? supportive friends? community? wholesome food? connections to spirit? Are all our needs being met? Do we have real support from those who can help us?
These are all parts of the holistic life..
I hope to step forward in my coaching career taking my love for food with me and infusing them just like with my tea Infusions.. Being a complete tincture for the soul..
Because if you’re anything like me (I’m guessing you are, since you’re here) you know that paving your own way is really necessary for the soul and your life purpose.
So I hope to see you here more often, and of course I’d love to see your journey through the recipes, so please feel free to tag and show me what you’re creating over on instagram.
